The good, the bad, and the downright weird—we survived it all.
Here’s to Midnight, Fireworks, and Fresh Starts

Well, folks, here we are again, staring down the last few hours of the year like a cat sizing up a rocking chair. 2024 is just about done, and if you ask me, it’s high time to look back, laugh a little, and maybe shake our heads at all the moments that didn’t go quite as planned.

New Year’s Eve is a funny thing. It’s not really a day like any other, is it? No, it’s a day that begs for reflection and champagne, resolutions and fireworks. It’s a day to celebrate what we got right and try not to dwell too much on what we got wrong. And if you’re lucky, it’s a day to spend with folks you love—or at least tolerate until the clock strikes twelve.

Let’s talk about 2024 for a minute. What kind of year was it for you? For me, it was a little like making biscuits. Some days they came out fluffy and perfect, other days I forgot the baking powder and ended up with hockey pucks. There were moments that felt like victories—times when the words came easy and the stories resonated—and moments when it felt like I was typing into the void. But through it all, y’all were there, reading, laughing, and reminding me why I keep doing this crazy thing called writing.

The truth is, 2024 was a mixed bag, and that’s okay. Life’s not supposed to be perfect. If it were, we’d all get bored faster than a toddler in a church pew. The missteps, the surprises, the downright ridiculous moments—they’re what make life interesting. They’re the stories we tell over and over, long after the sting of embarrassment or frustration has faded.

Take a minute tonight to think about your own stories from this year. What made you laugh? What made you cry? What taught you something you didn’t know about yourself? Those moments, big or small, are the threads that weave the tapestry of our lives. And let’s face it, sometimes the knots and tangles are just as important as the smooth parts.

Now, let’s talk about resolutions. Every year, we all make them, don’t we? We promise to eat better, exercise more, spend less time scrolling on our phones. And every year, most of us break those promises faster than we can say “gym membership.” But maybe that’s not such a bad thing. Maybe resolutions aren’t about perfection. Maybe they’re just a way to remind ourselves to keep trying, to keep striving for something better, even if we stumble along the way.

Here’s my resolution for 2025: to keep writing stories that make you smile, think, or maybe even shed a tear or two. I want to keep showing up for you, my readers, because y’all are the reason I do this. Without you, I’m just a guy with a keyboard and a lot of opinions. With you, I’m part of something bigger—a community, a conversation, a shared experience. And that, my friends, is worth every late night and early morning.

I also resolve to laugh more, stress less, and appreciate the little things. Life’s too short to sweat the small stuff, as my daddy used to say. And you know what? He was right. So here’s to finding joy in the everyday—the smell of fresh coffee, the sound of rain on the roof, the way a good story can make you feel like you’re not alone.

As the clock winds down tonight, take a moment to appreciate how far you’ve come. Maybe this year wasn’t everything you hoped it would be. Maybe it was harder than you expected. But you made it, and that’s no small thing. You’re still here, still standing, still trying. And that, my friends, is worth celebrating.

So raise a glass tonight, whether it’s filled with champagne, sweet tea, or something a little stronger. Toast to the good times and the lessons learned. Toast to the people who stood by you and the ones you had to let go. Toast to the moments that made you laugh until your sides hurt and the ones that taught you just how strong you really are.

And when the clock strikes midnight, take a deep breath and step into 2025 with hope in your heart and a smile on your face. The ball’s about to drop, y’all, and I, for one, can’t wait to see what happens next.

Here’s to you, my readers, my friends, my companions on this wild ride we call life. Thank you for being part of my story and letting me be part of yours. Here’s to another year of laughter, lessons, and love. Happy New Year, y’all. Let’s make it a good one.

Cheers!
